Tallahassee, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2017) – The Leon County Division of Tourism (Visit Tallahassee) touted “change is brewing” during its Annual Marketing Rollout event Tuesday night at Proof Brewing Co. As the destination continues evolving and thriving, the Division unveiled a new advertising campaign including niche specific content, several new marketing initiatives and its 2018 visitor guide.
The “It’s ALL in Tallahassee” advertising campaign emphasizes the “ALL” in “Tallahassee” with bold type font, graphics and headlines the campaign alludes to a wide range of activities, from outdoors and nature to history and heritage and arts and culture. Print and digital advertising in-state and throughout the Southeast and outdoor billboards along the I-10 corridor are included in the advertising campaign for FY18.
“Leon County’s tourism economy continues to evolve with big benefits to our community,” said Leon County Commission Chairman John E. Dailey. “The positive growth and change is hard to miss as educational, social and cultural offerings in our area continue to take shape.”
Tourism’s plans include a year-round advertising presence with a stronger focus during spring and fall seasons and specialized marketing activities in the Tampa Bay and Atlanta areas, both top potential markets.
“In 2017, Leon County focused on creating a vibrant tourism destination that draws visitors from around the state, region and across the country,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “Year after year we see that our focus is paying off as we meet bold goals and continue to strengthen our economy through tourism.”
Preliminary estimates from the past year include nearly $5.8 million in tourist development tax collections, 2.4 million visitors and $901 million in economic impact to the County from tourism.
“With eight consecutive years of growth, tourism has an established record of success for Leon County,” said Kerri Post, Director of Leon County Tourism. “We’re implementing a new advertising campaign and a number of new initiatives to broaden the narrative and ensure continued tourism growth at record levels.”
The Tourism’s promotional activities are fully funded from the Tourist Development Taxes, collected from hotels and short-term lodging in the county. Generated by visitors, this dedicated funding source is expected to generate nearly $5.8 million this fiscal year to market Florida’s capital region. Leon County Tourism also provides more than $1.25 million to the Council on Culture and Arts (COCA) for grant programs supporting performing and visual arts in the community.
The redesigned 100-page, full-color 2018 Visitor Guide provides detailed information on area attractions, events, sightseeing tours, the art walk and public art, sports, dining, afterhours entertainment, the community’s growing craft brew scene, pet-friendly lodging, dining and fun facts about the area’s history, notable names and pop culture.
