Sunshine Artist Magazine confirmed what many Tallahassee art lovers felt for years – the LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival has no equal…anywhere.
The magazine’s September, 2017 issue names the “100 Best Fine Art & Design Shows” in the country and the Tallahassee festival ranks #1. The manner in which the magazine compiles the ranking makes the award more meaningful.
Artists who participate in festivals throughout the country receive ballots and can vote for up to 10 festivals where they grossed the most revenue from sales. A point system from the ballots received determines the rankings.
The LeMoyne Chain of Parks Festival was ranked among the top 100 in two previous years but made a meteoric rise from #94 in 2016 to the top spot in 2017.
Held during the third weekend of April at Bloxham, Lewis and Randolph “Chain of Park” in downtown Tallahassee, it attracts 170 juried artists from around the country. But original fine art is just part of the story. The festival includes a 1560s living encampment, “Be The Art” photo opportunities for visitors, an at village for children, live entertainment and food.
Proceeds from the event benefit the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts education and exhibit programs. The center is named for French artist Jacque Le Moyne, noted for his depictions of flora, fauna, landscapes and native inhabitants of Florida in the 1560s.
Dates for the 2018 Chain of Parks Festival are April 21-22. For more information, visit www.ChainofParks.com.
