Challenger Learning Center IMAX TheatreWelcome Teachers.   We invite you and your students to experience Florida’s state capital city.  Our region offers educational experiences for every age group and school.  With a variety of history, art, science and nature-oriented attractions, you and your students won’t be disappointed.

Class TourAs you begin planning field trips, the Tallahassee Area Convention and Visitors Bureau can assist with field trip preparations to Florida’s capital city.  Our office will be happy to assist you with customized tour packaging including accommodations, itineraries and group meals.  To begin planning your custom-made field trip, contact our sales department at 1-800-628-2866 today.

Sample Itineraries

One Day Tour:   Historic Happenings

9:30 a.m. Capitol: Tour of New Capitol and Old Capitol Museum.
11 a.m. Governors Mansion: Tour this Georgian-style mansion, home to Florida's first family (open during legislative session).
12:30 p.m. Mission San Luis:  Explore Spanish and Indian lifeways before and after missionization.  The Living History Program complete with re-enactors enables students to see the community come to life!   Bag lunch.
3:30 p.m. Museum of Florida History: Travel into Florida’s pre-historic past, explore the twentieth-century, see artifacts from Florida’s military history and find the story of Florida’s people through the gallery and hands-on exhibits.

One Day Tour:  Outdoor & Animal Adventures

9 a.m. Maclay Gardens: Grounds feature over 200 floral varieties, including original species, plus hiking and swimming.
11 a.m. Tallahassee Museum: Experience outdoor animals in their natural habitat and re-live history through outdoor hands-on educational programs (programs last 45 min-3 hrs).
Eat lunch at on-site Trail Break Café.
2:00 p.m. Gulf Specimen: Marine Lab: Visit the 30,000-gallon-seawater system that supports a large array of fish and invertebrates.  Students can handle the animals in the touch tanks. Guided tours available with a marine biologist for 1-3 hrs.

One Day Tour:  Education Exploration

10 a.m. Challenger Learning Center/IMAX: Students can conduct a mission from ground control; see an IMAX film, planetarium and laser show.  Teachers are given follow-up activities to complete in the classroom.  Packages are available for student groups.
12:30 p.m. Catered lunch.
1:30 p.m. Mary Brogan Museum of Arts & Science: Interactive hands-on science center with art and science exhibitions.
3 p.m.  FSU Flying High Circus: Watch performance or rehearsal of this  nationally renowned act.
4 p.m. Tour of FSU/FAMU campus: Give students their first look at college life. Tour campus & get registration and application instructions.

Half-Day Trips

Pebble Hill Plantation: Premier example of 20th century shooting plantation. Tours and catered lunch available with reservations.
Wakulla Springs: Famous for its glass bottom boat tours, it is the home to one of the largest and deepest fresh water springs in the world.
Florida Caverns State Park: An intriguing cave containing limestone stalactites, stalagmites and draperies. Guided tours available.
St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge: Well known as an oasis of different habitats for wildlife.  Hands-on programs allow students to learn about wildlife & wildlands.
