The capital area’s beautiful environment is a continuous inspiration for the many visual artists that call Tallahassee home. While you’re here, make an adventure of exploring the many unique galleries and museums filled with works by some of these local and regional artists.
Tallahassee adds performing and visual artists from around the world to its local repertoire throughout the year. The sound of music is heard everywhere and reflects the history of the Capital area. Feel the roots of the blues and jazz at clubs around town or at both universities’ concert halls. Be classically enchanted by a local professional symphony orchestra, or a unique baroque music ensemble. Plus, Tallahassee has a cutting edge local and regional music scene that has spawned its share of national recording artists. And, hundreds of local voices are raised in concert by two outstanding choruses.

A community outreach program for young men ages 8 to 18 from public and private schools throughout Tallahassee. The Boys’ Choir prepares young men for the twenty-first century through music, discipline, and academic excellence. With its motto “No Excuses,” the choir continues to grow in popularity on the local, state, national and international level. The choir has performed throughout the United States and abroad.

Unique location and atmosphere that has hosted an impressive list of nationally renowned Blues acts. For the serious Blues fan, the BBC has a different artist each weekend. Just follow the tiki torches down the dirt roads till you reach the the one-room cinder block “juke joint” under the stars. We’ll keep the bonfire burning, the beer ice-cold and the music hot!

Every Saturday from March through November, Ponce de Leon Park comes alive. Celebrated local musicians play their music on stage, authors and poets present readings, and regional artists show their arts and fine crafts, while local farmers offer Mother Nature’s best. Special events bring hands-on art activities for children or sneak previews of upcoming cultural events.

Inside the Brogan Museum, visitors of all ages will enjoy interacting with permanent hands-on science exhibits, including the WCTV Weather Station, EcoLab, and the ever-popular Mind Games. Featured traveling exhibits also include dinosaurs, forensic science, energy and more. For an insightful look at visual art, the Brogan Museum hosts a multitude of exhibitions throughout the year featuring the best in sculpture, painting, photography, multi-media, and folk art.

Tallahassee’s tongue-in-cheek answer to a certain unctuous rodent in Orlando, often billed as “community theater for the weird community.” Performs cabaret-style shows, heavy on political parody, in a lime green and purple barn at the lip of Railroad Square. Tickets are first come, first served, so come early and listen to the live pre-show music under the Mulberry tree in the backyard. The group is open to all, and especially committed to creating opportunities for people with disabilities.

Off Railroad Avenue you’ll discover the eclectic world called Railroad Square, a collection of World War II-era warehouses now used as artist studios and small businesses. Begin at the sculpture garden and walk your way through and see artists working in their studios and tending their exhibits for visitors. Tallahassee’s own little Soho. Railroad Square, is also home to a company of actors who regularly present what they call “theatre for the weird community.”

Be classically enchanted by a local professional symphony orchestra, Now in its 25th season of providing the voice of classical orchestral music to the Tallahassee community. Features a Masterworks Series, exposing Tallahassee audiences to the wonders of classical music, as well as a holiday concert, young people’s concert, and pops concert. Most events are held in Ruby Diamond Auditorium on the FSU campus, and make for an exciting evening on the town.

Each year, the Tallahassee Ballet presents two full-length productions that feature the richness of our local talents, as well as exquisite performances from professional guest artists, plus a traditional production of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, in December with full orchestra.
