Senior games athletes from Tallahassee have been sparse at the State Championships over the last decade. The main reason is athletes have to travel to other local senior games around the state to qualify. Up until now, the closest local games to Tallahassee are Jacksonville, Pensacola and Gainesville. Now the Games will be in our own backyard.

”This is a wonderful opportunity for people to come out and compete and have some fun,” said Bill Tharpe, a Tallahassee resident who has been competing in the Florida Senior Games State Championships since 2003. “I think there will be a lot of people who may have been involved in a sport at some point in their lives and this will give them a chance to do it again. It’s a different way to stay in shape. If someone has been thinking about doing something like this, come on out. You might really like it.”

Not only will the 2010 Capital City Senior Games give local athletes a chance to qualify for the 2010 Florida Senior Games State Championships in Lee County and City of Cape Coral in December, 2010, but will provide a starting point for the opportunity to advance to the 2011 National Senior Games. The 2011 National Senior Games will be held in Houston, Texas in the summer of 2011.
