One Sizzlin’ Park!
Downtown Concert Series Begins This Saturday

Beginning this weekend, downtown will be filled with the sounds of live music on Saturday nights. Over the next two months, the City's Parks and Recreation Department presents the 7 Sizzlin’ Saturdays series, live concert events held in Lewis Park, located on Park Avenue between Calhoun and Gadsden Streets in the Downtown Chain of Parks.

This is the first time the summer concert series will be held in Lewis Park. Previous years’ events have been held at Kleman Plaza. However, due to construction and grass replacement on the Plaza, the series has a new home this year.

The free concerts will be held Saturdays between 6 and 8 p.m. Plenty of parking is available along streets adjacent to Lewis Park. The public parking garage underneath Kleman Plaza offers spots as well. The concert series begins this Saturday, May 5, with an appearance by the Longineu Parsons Ensemble. Area businesses and cultural facilities are joining the celebration, offering a full day of Saturday activities and events.

Citizens are invited to make ‘a day of it’ downtown, beginning with the Downtown Marketplace, held Saturdays in Ponce de Leon Park from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food, artists and other vendors provide a unique community downtown market atmosphere. From there, it’s a short walk to the Challenger Learning Center, the Knott House, the Mary Brogan Museum, the Riley House or the Florida History Museum for an afternoon of great films, history, art, science exhibits and programs. Downtown museums and cultural organizations are planning for extended hours, special family activities and other ways to put the Sizzle into your summer Saturdays. Residents can expect different experiences throughout the seven weeks of the concert series and are invited to contact the participating partners for information on their programs and hours.

The concert lineup follows.

· May 5 Longineu Parsons Ensemble
· May 12 Tryst
· May 19 Guilty By Association
· May 26 NO CONCERT (Memorial Weekend)
· June 2 Superheroes
· June 9 Tallahassee Fiddlers
