Art Is Everywhere! COCA Announces New Directory of Area Outdoor Art

Tallahassee, FL Outdoor art abounds in Tallahassee, and COCA, the Council on Culture & Arts, has created and launched an online guide that highlights more than 140 public sculptures, murals, windows, memorials, and monuments in our community.  Photos and detailed information about each work are provided, as well as a public art map that can be used to search for art and create tours of favorite artworks in any area of town.

This guide, located at www.cocanet.org/app, offers a view of the iconic, historic, and quirky works of art that enhance Tallahassee’s natural beauty. It includes public art from city, county and state/university collections as well as corporate and community artworks. All of the outdoor sculptures, murals, windows, monuments and memorials can be viewed from the street, sidewalk or other public locations.

This comprehensive project was implemented entirely by COCA staff, including Associate Director Randi Atwood and COCA’s Education and Exhibitions Coordinator, Amanda Karioth Thompson.

There has never been a comprehensive listing of Tallahassee’s public, outdoor artwork until now,” says Thompson. “Having this information all in one place will be a first for our city. We hope it will become a great resource for Tallahassee residents and visitors alike and we need the help of the community to keep these listings current and complete. The site provides an opportunity to let us know about additional pieces and pass along extra details about the pieces we have already featured.”

At COCA’s website, www.cocanet.org, individuals can explore the online Artist Directory that features almost 500 listings of visual artists, musicians, theatre artists, filmmakers, dancers and writers. COCA is committed to promoting arts and culture in all its forms, and through its programs, COCA continually seeks ways to promote the area’s diverse range of cultural events and traditions. Through innovative partnerships with community and educational groups, COCA seeks to enrich and improve the lives of citizens and visitors alike.
