TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Oct. 12, 2011 – During the 44th Annual Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Visit Tallahassee was awarded with the prestigious Flagler Award, aka “The Henry” for Advocacy for the T.O.U.R. Guide program, outranking larger tourism markets, Jacksonville and Naples. Although Visit Tallahassee has been a finalist in years past for the Flagler Awards, this was the first time in the destination’s history of winning first place. Named after Henry Flagler’s commitment and imagination regarding tourism, the Florida Commission on Tourism created the Flagler Awards in 2000 to honor excellence in tourism marketing in Florida, and recognizes those continuing to make Florida a leading travel destination. In addition to winning “The Henry,” Visit Tallahassee was given the Bronze Award for print advertising for the “Comes Together Beautifully” campaign.

Tallahassee, FL – October 18, 2011 The Tallahassee Bach Parley will begin the 2011-2012 season with J.S. Bach’s beautiful and popular Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, and will also feature the Telemann “Paris” Quartet in E minor and two vocal works by Handel. Tallahassee Bach Parley concerts are unique to our area because the musicians use period instruments—both antique instruments from the 18th century and modern reproductions—that give the audience a glimpse into the past. By using the same models of instruments that Bach, Handel and Telemann would have used themselves, Bach Parley concertgoers will hear Baroque music performed as it might have sounded when composed over 300 years ago. “Parley” means discussion in French, so true to the spirit of the Bach Parley name, music director Valerie Arsenault will offer commentary before each piece to help the audience to understand what to listen for in the music, providing background for listeners new to Baroque music and offering musical and historical insights to experienced Baroque fans as well. The concert will be held at 3 PM, Sunday November 13, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 211 North Monroe Street in Tallahassee.

Tallahassee, FL, September 7, 2011: While Florida’s Historic Capitol dome is undergoing some much?needed repairs, plans are underway for the use of the old copper once it is removed. Soon, you, too, will have a chance to purchase a piece of Florida history and aid in the continued preservation of this significant historic treasure. After more than a century of leaking and attempts at repair, the old copper will be removed, then the dome will be re sealed with new copper and preservation?sensitive sealants. As the scaffolding rises overhead, the Museum development staff is investigating ways that the copper can be fashioned into collectors’ items for fundraising purposes. Commemorative coins, collectible ornaments, and a donor wall of recognition are just a few of the plans.
