The Apalachicola National Forest is located southwest of Tallahassee and stretches over Franklin, Liberty, Leon and Wakulla Counties. There are 565,000 acres to explore the original Florida. It offers many great land-based and water-based recreational activities to enjoy Florida at its best. The lakes offer fishing, paddling, picnicking, restrooms, and swimming activities. The lake recreational areas offer restrooms, campgrounds, trails and showers.
Camel Lake
Camel Lake is located in Liberty County. It is a beautiful lake with a white sandy beach. The recreation area provides picnic tables, grills, restrooms, a boat ramp, outdoor showers, hot showers, fire rings, and is wheelchair accessible. There are 10 lake view campsites. There are three trails nearby: Florida National Scenic Trail, Trail of Lakes, and the Camel Lake Interpretive Trail.

$8.00 per campsite per night
Directions from I-10:
Take exit 174 and head toward Greensboro on State Road 12. Follow State Road 12 for approximately 27 plus miles. Take a right on State Road 20. At the red light in Bristol, take a left on State Road 12 South. A few miles down take a left on Forest Road 105. Camel Lake Recreational Area will be 2 miles down.

Dog Lake
Dog Lake is located in Leon County a few miles from Silver Lake Recreational Area and the Lost Lake & Trout Pond Recreational Area. It is a hot spot in the summer for locals. There are no facilities available.

Directions from I-10:
Take Exit 196 and head toward the Tallahassee Regional Airport on Capital Circle. Continue on Capital Circle past the Airport to the first light. Turn right on Springhill Road, County Road 373. Go approximately 2-3 miles and take a right on Dog Lake Tower Road (Dirt Road). A few miles down take a right on Forest Road 323. This will dead end at the lake.
From Capitol: Go south on South Monroe Street. Take a right on Orange Avenue. Go approximately 1 mile and turn left on Springhill Road, County Road 373. Pass the Tallahassee Regional Airport and go approximately 2-3 miles. Take a right on Dog Lake Tower Road. A few miles down take a right on Forest Road 323.
Lofton Pond
Lofton Pond is located in Leon County a few miles from Lost Lake and Trout Pond Recreational Area. This site does not have facilities, but does provide an unimproved boat ramp.

Take exit 196 toward the Tallahassee Regional Airport on Capital Circle. Continue on Capital Circle past the Airport to the first light. Turn right on Springhill Road, County Road 373. Go approximately 4 miles. Turn right on Sam Allen Road and the landing is approximately 100 yards on the left.
Lost Lake & Trout Pond
Lost Lake and Trout Pond are located in Leon County. This area offers a quite place to picnic and has a fishing dock; however, the dock is not easily accessible. The Trout Pond area can be explored by foot. There are no facilities available.

Take exit 196 toward the Tallahassee Regional Airport on Capital Circle. Continue on Capital Circle past the Airport to the first light. Turn right on Springhill Road, County Road 373. Go approximately 3.7 miles and turn right on Lost Lake Road, Forest Road 375. Lost Lake is located at the end of the road.

Moore Lake is located in Leon County a few miles from the Silver Lake Recreational Area. This site does not have facilities, but does provide an unimproved boat ramp.

Take exit 196 and head toward the Tallahassee Regional Airport on Capital Circle. Continue on Capital Circle past the Airport to State Road 20. Turn right on State Road 20 for approximately 3.7 miles. Take a left on Silver Lake Road for 3 miles to Forest Road 358 (road turns to dirt). Turn left on Forest Road 377. This road is a one lane road that dead ends at the lake.
Silver Lake
Silver Lake is located in Leon County. It is a beautiful lake with a white sandy beach. This is a great place to spend the day. The recreation area provides picnic tables, grills, restrooms, a boat ramp, hot showers, and is wheelchair accessible.

Hitchcock Lake
Hitchcock Lake is located in Liberty County near the Ochlockonee River. This area has campsites that provide picnic tables and grills and is designated as a hunting camp during hunting season. This site does not have facilities, but does provide an unimproved boat ramp.

Take exit 181 and head south on State Road 267. Take a left on State Road 20 going east. Cross the Ochlockonee River and take a right on State Road 375. Go approximately 20 plus miles, roughly 30 minutes, and turn right on Forest Road 13. Cross the Ocklockonee River and turn left on State Road 67. Approximately 3-4 miles down take a left on Forest Road 184. Hitchcock Lake is located a little ways down the road.
Wood Lake
Wood Lake is located in Wakulla County near the Ochlockonee River. This area has campsites and is designated as a hunting camp during hunting season. . This site provides an improved boat ramp, water, and a pit toilet.

Take exit 196 and head toward the Tallahassee Regional Airport on Capital Circle. Continue on Capital Circle to Crawfordville Highway, US Highway 319. Turn right on US Highway 319. Follow US Highway 319 to Sopchoppy. US Highway 319 will start to head south, go west on State Road 22. Take a left on Forest Road 337. Cross the Sopchoppy River and turn right on 338. Wood Lake will be located on your left.
Whitehead Lake
Whitehead Lake is located in Liberty County near the Ochlockonee River. This site provides a boat ramp, 6 campsites, picnic tables, grills, fire rings, water, and a pit toilet.

Take exit 181 and head south on State Road 267. Take a left on State Road 20 going east. Cross the Ochlockonee River and take a right on State Road 375. Go approximately 20 plus miles, roughly 30 minutes, and turn right on Forest Road 13. Cross the Ocklockonee River and turn left on State Road 67. A few miles down take a left on Forest Road 186. Whitehead Lake is located a little ways down the road.

Wright Lake is located in Franklin County. It is a beautiful lake with a white sandy beach. The recreation area provides picnic tables, grills, hot showers, campsites, fire rings, a dump station, and is wheelchair accessible. There are 20 campsites available.

Fees: $3.00 per vehicle per day
$8.00 per campsite per night
Directions from I-10:
Take exit 181 and head south on State Road 267. Take a right on State Road 20 going west for approximately 15 miles. Take a left on State Road 65 and go approximately 29 miles to Sumatra. Pass Sumatra and take a right on Forest Road 101. Wright Lake Recreation Area will be down the road.
