Tallahassee City Parks

City of Tallahassee Parks System

Go to Parks and Trails Map. This will link to the TLCGIS I-Maps of Tallahassee Parks. On the left side select "Detailed Maps". This will give you details on trails in the parks.

Eleanor Klapp-Phipps Park This park is located northeast of
Tallahassee off of Meridian Road. The park is part of the Lake Jackson watershed and includes 668 acres. The park offers 20 miles of trails
that travel through several diverse ecosystems. There are 13.2 miles of
multi-use trails, 6.6 miles of hiking trails, and 2.7 miles of biking trials.

Directions
:
Directions from I-10: Take exit 203 and go north on US 319. Take
a left on Timberlane and a right on Meridian Road. A few miles up you
will see the park sign on left.

Goose Pond Trail  This trail is not located in a park. It is maintained by the City of Tallahassee Public Works. It is 3.8 miles long and runs between east US Highway 90 and Miccosukee Road. The trail can be accessed off of US Highway 90 a little ways west of Capitol Circle Northeast on the right side before the Farmers and Merchant Bank.

San Luis Mission Park  This 3 acre park is located in Tallahassee near Tharpe Street. The park is just around the corner of the Mission San Luis and is a historic site. It offers 3.5 miles of multi-use trails to explore.

Tom Brown and Lafayette Heritage Trail Park  Tom Brown Park has 255 acres and is located east of Tallahassee off of Easterwood Drive. The Lafayette Heritage Trail Park has 796 acres and joins Tom Brown Park on the east side. Tom Brown Park offers 4 miles of mountain bike trails, 1.5 miles of paved multi-use trials, many hiking trails, and unpaved multi-use trails. The Lafayette Heritage Trail Park offers 4 miles of multi-use trails and 2.8 miles of mountain bike trails. These trails travel through forested woodlands and on the side of Lake Lafayette.

Directions from I-10: Take exit 209 and go west on US 90. Take a left onto Capitol Circle Northeast. Go. 0.5 miles and take a left at Eastwood Drive. The park will be on your left.

J.R. Alford Greenway
This park is located east of Tallahassee at the end of Pedrick Road. There are 874 acres of open pasture and forested woodlands to explore. The 26 miles of trails travel in and around the open pasture and throughout the woods. In the spring time, the gently rolling hills are full of wildflowers. Directions :
From I-10: Take exit 209 and go west on US 90. Take a left onto Pedrick Road. At the light continue straight on Pedrick Road. You will pass Buck Lake Elementary and Swift Creek Middle Schools. The Greenway will be at the end of the road.

Miccosukee Canopy Road Greenway This park is located east of Tallahassee off of Miccosukee Road in the Red Hills Region. There are 503 acres of open pastures and forested woodlands. The 17 miles of trails cover two designed trails around the rolling hills and through the hardwood and pine forests. In the spring time, wildflowers can be seen on the rolling hills. Picnic tables and benches are provided throughout the greenway to allow one to take in and enjoy the scenery.

From I-10: Take exit 209 and go west on US 90. Take a right on Edenfield Road to Miccosukee Road. The park is across the street. 



State Parks

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park  This park is located in the northeast region of Leon County in the Red Hills Region. There are over 12,000 acres with 2 nature trails, 3 miles of biking trails, and a 5 mile multi-use trail. The hiking trails are located on the Lake Overstreet addition traveling through a mixture of hardwoods and pines over rolling hills. The trailhead starts at the state park, but the trail can also be accessed at the Forestmeadows Park located off of Meridian Road. The park is located on the west side of Meridian Road and the trail is on the east side. Parking is available at the city park.

Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park
This park is located in Franklin County about 75 miles west of Tallahassee. The park is on 2,000 acres on the eastside of the island. It offers many miles of undeveloped beaches, emerald waters, campsites, and many recreational opportunities. There is 2.5 miles of trails winding through the pine flatwood forest found on the island.

Econfina River State Park 
This park is located in Taylor County east of Tallahassee. It offers many activities for nature lovers. There are over 4,500 acres with 9 miles of multi-use trails to explore. The trails wind through a mixture of pine flatwoods, oaks, and palm forest with views of the river, sand dunes, and salt marshes dotted with pine islands. 

Lake Talquin State Park  This 554 acre park is located west of Tallahassee off of State Road 20. It offers picnic tables, grills, a large pavilion, and a half mile nature trail. Down the road from the state park is a boat ramp maintained by the county. Hikers can enjoy the rolling hills and deep ravines through the hardwood and pine forest.

Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park This 313 acre park is located north of Tallahassee off of Crowder Road near Lake Jackson. This area was occupied by Native Americans eight centuries ago. This area is known as the Southern Ceremonial Complex with six temple mounds. It offers picnic tables, interpretive exhibits, and a quarter mile of nature trails. 

Letchworth Mounds Archaeological State Park  This 189 acre park is located east of Tallahassee off of US Highway 90. It offers picnicking, birding, and hiking. This site hosts the tallest Native American ceremonial mound in Florida at 46 feet. It is believed that the Weeden Island Culture occupied this area between 200 and 800 A.D. The hiking trail is a quarter of a mile winding through the perimeter of the ceremonial mound.

Ochlockonee River State Park 
This park is located in Wakulla County south of Tallahassee. It is settled on the east side of the Ochlockonee River and the west side of Dead River covering over 543 acres. Within this park, there are 4 miles of trails to hike. The trails wind through the pine flatwoods forest and along the banks of the river.

Tallahassee – St. Marks Historical Railroad State Trail 
This is Florida’s first designated state trail. It follows the abandoned railbed that ran from Tallahassee to St. Marks. The railroad was established to carry cotton from the plantations to the coast for shipment to England. This paved trail is 16 miles long starting in Tallahassee passing the Apalachicola National Forest and ending in St. Marks near the San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park. This trail is accessible to walkers, skaters, and bikers. There is an adjacent trail for horseback riding. Florida Greenways and Trails: St. Marks Historical Railroad State Trail 

San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park This 16.7 acre park is located in Wakulla County, south of Tallahassee off of State Road 363 in St. Marks. It is situated between St. Marks River and the Wakulla River. At one time, many Native Americans were seen in this area. In the 1500s, a Spanish Explorer occupied the area. Over the years this fort will change several hands between the Spanish, English, British, and then to the United States. There is a quarter of a mile self guided tour that winds through the area describing the colorful history of the fort.

Wakulla Springs State Park This park is located in Wakulla County, 14 miles south of Tallahassee. It is the home to one of the largest and deepest spring in the world. There are over 6,000 acres with 8 miles of trails winding through upland woods. This park is listed on the Natural Register of Historic Places and is designated as a National Natural Landmark.

Torreya State Park  This park is located in Liberty County west of Tallahassee. There are over 13,000 acres with 18 miles of trails. The trails wind through a hardwood forest with high bluffs overlooking the Apalachicola River, cross confederate gun pits, and along the side of the river. The forest is full of color in the fall and includes the rare Torreya Tree that grows only along the bluffs of the Apalachicola River.
