Ain’t I a Woman, part of Goodwood's "Fine Art, Folk Art" exhibit and program series, will be presented by the Core Ensemble.
This is musical theater featuring an actress and a chamber music trio that honors four African American women of remarkable achievement and invincible character:
-- ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth
-- renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston
-- exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter
-- and fervent civil rights champion Fanny Lou Hamer.
The musical score is drawn from the heartfelt spirituals of the Deep South, the urban experience of the Jazz Age, and concert music by African American composers including Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Max Roach and Diane Monroe.
The performance is sponsored in part by COCA, Leon County, Visit Tallahassee, and the City of Tallahassee.
