Mark This Off Your Resolution List

As the Christmas trees are clear away and the decorations begin to come down, we begin to hear that one, persistent phrase again: "New Year, New Me". The desire to grow is a great thing and Tallahassee has plenty of opportunities to guide you there.

Join a Gym

Travelling to Tallahassee for a getaway doesn’t mean you have to put your resolution of getting into shape on hold! Tallahassee is home to many large gym chains you might be a member at like YouFit, Planet Fitness, and Gold’s Gym so you don’t have to leave your motivation at home.

Another good way to get in shape as well as de-stress is through yoga. Journeys in Yoga offers a wide variety of yoga classes, including flow yoga, core yoga, and more, while Hot Yoga Tallahassee gets a little more specific. The heated room promotes sweating, ridding the body of toxins, as well as your stress.

Run A Marathon (or half of one)

February means more than romantic escapes for Valentine’s Day. Tallahassee hosts a large number of annual races from the Tallahassee Marathon and Half Marathon, to benefit races like the Refuge House Stop the Violence and Marching Chief 5k’s. Most people start training six months to an entire year in advance and although you might not be ready yet for the upcoming race, that doesn’t mean you can’t start training for the next one! It can seem daunting, so train with a friend and increase your mileage little by little every week, and you’ll be ready to run in the next marathon.

Attend a Memorable Sporting Event

Tallahassee hosts a large number of fun and exhilarating sporting events from the FSU Seminoles and FAMU Rattlers. If you want to add attending a collegiate basketball, baseball, swim meet, volleyball, and even a circus show to your resolution list know that Tallahassee is the place for just that. Or get out on your own and hike, bike, run or paddle any of the 600 miles of area trails. Trailahassee.com is your key resource for outdoor fun.

Try Something New

Your New Year’s Resolution can be something as simple as expanding your horizons and attend an event in Tallahassee you haven’t before.

The spring offers plenty of chances to get to know Tallahassee, such as the classic Springtime Tallahassee festival, or the Word of South festival which is perfect for readers and music lovers. But the fun doesn’t stop there, add to the list the Southern Shakespeare Festival, the LeMoyne Chain of Parks Arts Festival and enjoy  the one-of-a-kind fun that awaits here.

Another unique offering is the FSU Flying High Circus. One of only two collegiate circuses in the nation, this Florida State must-see boasts a cast of talented student performers showing off their astonishing skills of strength, flexibility, and grace, often while flying above the crowd.

Conquer Your Fears

One of the most common fears that people have is of heights. If you want to conquer your fear, or just go for the thrill, try the Tree to Tree Zip Line Adventures at the Tallahassee Museum This zipline and aerial ropes course is a great way to test your endurance and get a glimpse of nature while having fun.

Whatever your goals for the new year turn out to be, anything’s attainable if you set your mind to it. And a little support from friends, family, and the Tallahassee community doesn’t hurt either.
